“…Recent literature highlights a number of emerging organisms causing corneal ulcers 27–29,31–33 and also newer drugs for their management 34–40 . However, in our series not many emerging organisms are isolated and we have not used the more recent antimicrobial drugs because of the limitation of availability.…”

“…Failure to drug therapy alone in 39% of eyes in the study may be due to prior either inadequate or irrational therapy received that led to drug resistance. 16 Recent literature highlights a number of emerging organisms causing corneal ulcers [27][28][29][31][32][33] and also newer drugs for their management. “…So far very few reports have appeared about it in the world literature and in most of the cases, keratitis developed following a surgical intervention. [18][19][20] Although A. pullulans is regarded as a contaminant, it should be implicated as a pathogen if there exists a clinical and microbiological correlation.…”

“…Opportunistic infections are mostly caused by A. pullulans but also other taxa have been reported, such as Aureobasidium proteae Kutleša et al 2012). Most infections occur by traumatic inoculation, such as keratitis and cutaneous lesions; disseminated mycoses are very rare and occur only in severely immunocompromised patients (Kaczmarski et al 1986;Salkin et al 1986;Arranz et al 2006;Panda et al 2006;Mise et al 2008;Pikazis et al 2009;Chawla et al 2010;Joshi et al 2010;Mershon-Shier et al 2011). A. pullulans has an affinity for synthetic materials and surgically implanted devices, as evidenced by the relatively frequent isolation of the organism from peritoneal dialysis catheters and central venous lines (Clark et al 1995;Caporale et al 1996;Hawkes et al 2005;Mise et al 2008).…”
