Abstract:The validating diagnosis of Sorbus aucuparia was borrowed from Enumeratio methodica stirpium Helvetiae indigenarum of Haller, who had drawn it from glabrous‐leaved plants of the Alps that belong to S. aucuparia subsp. glabrata, but Linnaeus applied it to a specimen of his own collection that represents a subglabrous variant of S. aucuparia subsp. aucuparia.
