Aphidius platensisBrethes, its distribution and host range (Hym. : Aphidiidae)

Abstract: The research on the distribution and host range of Aphldius platensls has shown that this species is apparently indigenous to India, being further distributed in Africa, Australia, Middle East, South America, and Nearctic America (Californiaintroduced). Its host range is very wide both as to taxonomic affinities and ecology of its hosts. which all belong to the Aphididae. Its utilization as II possibly useful biological control agent is promising.Research on aphid parasites of the tropics and allied zones of S… Show more

“…Aphidius colemani occurs in warmer regions around the world and is common in South America, but presumably originated in the Oriental region [17]. Based on host records from Venezuela [10], Chile [13], and Brazil [11], it is probable that this species attacks a greater range of aphids in Costa Rica than that reported here.…”

“…) and Lysiphlebus fabarum (Marshall) were quoted as playing a dominant rble in several areas (Star~, 1964 ;Rosen, 1969). In 1973-74 the nearctic parasitoid Lysiphlebus testaceipes (Cresson) was introduced in the Mediterranean France and in Corsica (Star~ et al, 1975 ;Star~, 1976). In 1977-78 this species was discovered in the citrus groves of Central and South Italy, including Sicily (Tremblay et al, 1978 ;Tremblay & Barbagallo, 1983).…”

This choice also allowed a comparison between two main groups of aphid parasitoids, the genus Aphelinus and the genus Aphidius (sub-family Aphidiinae).…”
