Alternanthera mosaic potexvirus: Several Features, Properties, and Application

Abstract: Alternanthera mosaic virus (AltMV) is a typical member of the Potexvirus genus in its morphology and genome structure; still it exhibits a number of unique features. They allow this virus to be considered a promising object for biotechnology. Virions and virus-like particles (VLPs) of AltMV are stable in a wide range of conditions, including sera of laboratory animals. AltMV VLPs can assemble at various pH and ionic strengths. Furthermore, AltMV virions and VLPs demonstrate high immunogenicity, enhancing the i… Show more

“…To enhance the immunogenicity of this epitope, we selected the coat protein of the plant virus AltMV (strain MU) as a carrier. According to the data obtained in our previous work, both AltMV virions and VLPs exhibit adjuvant properties [9], which inspired hope that VLPs or RNPs formed with AltMV CP could efficiently enhance the immune response to the epitope of rotavirus A protein VP6. Based on the study by Tremblay et al, who showed that in VLPs of .…”

“…In particular, it seems promising to obtain VLPs based on coat proteins of plant viruses, which are safe for humans, possess strong immunostimulating properties, and can be obtained cost-effectively [8]. One plant virus with immunostimulating properties is Alternanthera mosaic virus (AltMV) [9]. AltMV belongs to the Potexvirus genus of the Alphaflexiviridae family.…”

“…At the same time, the assembly of PVX virions begins directly at the 5'end of the molecule; RNA interacts with CP monomers and dimers [27]. There is little data on the assembly of AltMV, but the assembly apparently occurs in the same way as in PVX [29]. It should be noted that in TMV, PVX, and AltMV, despite the fact that the assembly of virions occurs in different scenarios, the surface charge is distributed unevenly and an increased negative charge density area is located at one end of the virion.…”
