Agaricus bisporusAttenuates Dextran Sulfate Sodium-Induced Colitis

Abstract: Agaricus bisporus (white button mushroom, WBM) is widely consumed in most countries and is reported to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. However, little is known regarding its effects in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis, which are related to dysfunction of intestinal immunity. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of WBMs in an animal model of DSS-induced colitis. Male, 4-week-old ICR mice (n=10 per group) were fed a normal diet with or without 10% WBM for 4 w… Show more

“…In agreement with our findings, it has been shown in mice with colitis, induced by dextran sulphate, that dietary intake of the mushroom Agaricus bisporus , rich in flavonoids, as well as ß ‐glucans from some yeasts , can have strong modulating effect on intestinal inflammation.…”

“…The polysaccharides can effectively regulate UC-induced increased intestinal permeability, dysregulation of inflammatory factors, and oxidative stress. Fungal polysaccharide, as a polysaccharide with the characteristics of “homology of medicine and food”, has attracted extensive research for its significant effect on UC and UC-related abnormal changes . A polysaccharide from the fungus Agaricus blazei showed significant alleviating effects on preventing UC-induced decrease in SOD and increase in MDA, suggesting that it can alleviate UC-induced oxidative stress .…”

“…Así mismo, se demostró que la elevada actividad de la actividad mieloperoxidasa y la sobreproducción de TNF-α, que tenían lugar tras la inducción de la colitis, quedaban atenuados en aquellos animales alimentados con A. bisporus. Dicha actividad antiinflamatoria se relacionó con la capacidad antioxidante que el hongo mostró, atribuyéndose ambos efectos, en gran parte, al contenido de compuestos fenólicos del hongo (Um, Park et al 2014).…”
