“…Statistically stronger biofilm formation at solid-liquid and air-liquid interfaces was confirmed for antibiotics-sensitive isolates as compared to MDR isolates. This observation is in accordance with statements published for clinical isolates of A. baumannii that isolates sensitive to antibiotics form stronger biofilm (Kaliterna et al, 2015;Perez et al, 2015;Qi et al, 2016). Biofilm protects sensitive isolates from the harmful effect of antibiotics, while MDR isolates have already developed mechanisms to protect themselves from antibiotics and therefore do not tend to assemble cells in biofilm.…”

“…The ability to form biofilm in vitro was tested via the crystal violet assay (Kaliterna et al, 2015). Overnight bacterial culture was diluted in nutrient broth (Biolife) to an absorbance of 0.1 at 600nm (OD 600 ).…”

“…In a study by King et al , the top biofilm producers were sensitive to almost every antibiotic tested (ampicillin/sulbactam, ciprofloxacin, gentamicin, imipenem, piperacillin/tazobactam, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, tigecycline), while the lowest producers were multidrug resistant. In a Croatian study, the majority of resistant clinical isolates did not form a biofilm .…”

“…In another study, 58% and 29% of the isolates belonged to international clones 2 and 1, respectively (32). In the study conducted by Kaliterena et al, in Croatia, 51% of the A. baumannii species belonged to class 1 and 27% to class 2 international clone, and the others belonged to other clones (33).…”
