Hypoxia Signaling in Cardiovascular Diseases

Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases such as stroke, coronary artery disease, and thrombosis remain a global health burden. Understanding the mechanism of these diseases paves the way for development of prophylactics/therapeutics. It is well known at cellular levels; the pathophysiology of most of the cardiovascular disease involves a complicated yet coordinated signaling networks triggered in response to either cellular or tissue levels of hypoxic milieu. Information related to types of hypoxia and signaling mechanism ass… Show more

“…Chronic and acute hypoxic exposure has been shown to trigger endothelial damage and vascular inflammation (Tarbell et al, 2020), increasing an individual's risk of vascular injury that can lead to adverse outcomes, such as cardiovascular disease (Lee et al, 2019). Moreover, the progressive nature of cardiovascular disease is also proposed to exacerbate vascular hypoxia (Gupta & Zahid Ashraf, 2018), resulting in a reciprocal cycle. The endothelium plays a pivotal role in this cycle; therefore, it is important to understand the deleterious effects of hypo-…”
