Hypoglicemic and Hypolipedimic Effects of Ganoderma lucidum in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats

Abstract: Background:Ganoderma lucidum (Leyss. Ex. Fr) Karst is a basidiomycete mushroom that has been used for many years as a food supplement and medicine. In Brazil, National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) classified Ganoderma lucidum as a nutraceutical product. The objective of the present work was to observe the effects of an extract from Ganoderma lucidum in rats treated with streptozotocin, and an agent that induces diabetes. Method: Male Wistar rats were obtained from the animal lodging facilities of both U… Show more

“…plasma glucose levels through suppression of the hepatic PEPCK gene expression in db/db mice (Seto et al 2009). The 30-day treatment with the hydroethanolic extract (containing beta-glucan, proteins, and phenols) of G. lucidum fruiting bodies exhibited hypoglycaemic effects in STZ-induced diabetic rats (Bach et al 2018). In addition, many identified bioactive constituents in G. lucidum fruiting bodies, such as polysaccharides, proteoglycans, proteins, ganoderic acids, and triterpenoids, have been shown to exhibit hypoglycaemic activities (Ma et al 2015).…”

“…Although several studies have reported the hypoglycaemic and antioxidant potentials of G. lucidum fruiting bodies (He et al 2006;Seto et al 2009;Xiao et al 2012;Zheng et al 2012;Pan et al 2013;Bach et al 2018), the composition and relative proportions of G. lucidum basidiocarp cultivation are different from those of submerged culture (Wachtel-Galor et al 2011). In addition, the yield of mycelia and extracellular polysaccharides obtained from submerged G. lucidum cultures varies with the culture conditions (Chang et al 2006).…”

“…The phenolic compound content of G. lucidum in a study were found ganoderic acid, ferulic acid, rutin, coumaric acid, cafeic acid, kercetin. 31 These phenolic compounds are important antioxidants. 31,32 The major flavonoids with active antioxidant activity in ethanol extracts from G. lucidum were quercetin, myricetin and morin.…”

“…In addition, research in the last decade has shown that G. lucidum has a large number of pharmacological functions, such as enhancing immunity, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer effects. [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 ]. Moreover, it was reported that G. lucidum polysaccharides, which are one of the main effective components, can suppress tumor progression, such as melanoma, lung cancer, breast cancer, endometrial cancer, bladder cancer, and colorectal cancer [ 7 , 8 ].…”
