Hypocrea virens sp. nov., the Teleomorph of Trichoderma virens

Abstract: The new species Hypocrea virens, has been found to be the teleomorph of Trichoderma virens, a species commonly used in biological control applications. This conclusion is based on the comparison of morphological and molecular data from four isolates of T virens and a single collection and isolate of H. virens. Data for several morphological characters, including colony and growth characteristics, were collected. In addition, sequence data from ITS1, 5.8S, ITS2 rDNA and translation elongation factor (tef-la) we… Show more

“…virens was first reported from Indiana, USA from a decorticated wood, and it has been found to be the telemorph of T. virens according to molecular and morphological characters (Chaverri et al, 2001). H. virens has generally been found earlier from soil, decaying wood, on other fungi (such as basidiomycetes) and as opportunistic plant symbionts (Herman et al, 2004;Druzhinina et al, 2011).…”

“…Ex Fr. (Chaverri et al, 2001). Estudos culturais comprovam que muitas espécies de Hypocrea produzem a forma conidial (Trichoderma ), mas o oposto não é verdadeiro para a maioria das espécies (Gams et al, 1980).…”

“…The internal transcribed spacer (ITS-1) and internal transcribed spacer (ITS-2) region of 5.8Sr DNA and tef-1 (gene) of the five Trichoderma virens isolates were analyzed (Chaverri et al, 2001). Hermosa et al, 2004, attempted to analyze the genetic variability within bio-control isolates of Trichoderma using sequence data obtained from the ITS Trichoderma species is one of the key potential bio-control agents against soil-borne pathogens.…”
