Hyperprogesteronism associated with adrenocortical tumours in two dogs

Anais Farges,
Dave Crawford,
Carlos Adrega da Silva
et al.

Abstract: A 9‐year‐old, entire, female, soft‐coated Wheaten terrier and a 7‐year‐old, male, neutered greyhound were presented for clinical signs suggestive of hyperadrenocorticism (polyuria, polydipsia, and in the first case, polyphagia and weight gain). Adrenocorticotrophic hormone stimulation test and low‐dose dexamethasone suppression test ruled out excessive production of cortisol. Imaging (abdominal ultrasound and computed tomography) revealed an adrenal mass in both cases. Further hormonal testing revealed hyperpr… Show more

“…The PRDM is often observed during physiological diestrus but also may be secondary to pregnancy, ovarian remnant syndrome, and possible other ovarian diseases, or even iatrogenic due to the use of synthetic progestins [ 11 , 14 , 29 , 54 ]. Curiously, CDM secondary to P4-secreting corticoadrenal tumors is yet to be demonstrated in dogs [ 55 ]. Figure 2 depicts a chart of the progesterone-related conditions associated with PRDM in dogs.…”
