Hypericum perforatum L.-Mediated Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Exhibiting Antioxidant and Anticancer Activities

Abstract: This contribution focuses on the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with a size < 100 nm for potential medical applications by using silver nitrate solution and Hypericum Perforatum L. (St John’s wort) aqueous extracts. Various synthesis methods were used and compared with regard to their yield and quality of obtained AgNPs. Monodisperse spherical nanoparticles were generated with a size of approximately 20 to 50 nm as elucidated by different techniques (SEM, TEM). XRD measurements showed that … Show more

“…The peaks at 38.01°, 44.34°, 65.52°, and 77.30° are equivalent to ( hkl ) planes of (111), (200), (220), and (311) planes, respectively. These peaks can be accredited to the face-centered cubic structure of silver nanocrystals, and they are in outstanding agreement with the previous studies [ 99 , 100 ]. It can be seen from Figure 6 a that the diffraction pattern has been matched with JCPDS card No.…”

“…Additionally, the Ag NPs are separated from each other by a uniform interparticle distance. The results of HRTEM are in excellent agreement with an earlier investigation by Alahmad et al [99].…”

“…The selected area diffraction pattern showed that the BkCE-AgNPs were a mixture of monocrystalline and polycrystalline nature. The concentric ring corresponding to the planes (111), ( 200), ( 220) and (300) con rmed the crystalline facecentered cubic lattice AgNPs (Alahmad et al 2021).…”

“…These values corresponded to the (111), ( 200), (220), and (311) lattice planes of the face-centered cubic structure (fcc) of silver according to the JCPDS No. 03-065-2871 (Alahmad et al 2021). The SAED-TEM and XRD analyses suggested that the identities of the synthesized nanomaterials were AgNPs.…”
