Hyperfine fields acting on diamagnetic impurities and the anisotropic exchange via the s‐ and d‐electrons in the rare‐earth metals

Abstract

103Using the Mossbauer effect the hyperfine fields for the tin impurity in the dysprosium host is measured over the temperature range 6 to 293 K. Two hyperfine fields are found in the ferromagnetic region, which differ one from another by ~2 0 % .In passing through the Curie point the shape of the spectrum drastically changes by smearing because of the superposition of many hyperfine fields in the antiferromagnetic region. The existence of a temperature anomaly appears in a marked distinction of the hyperfine field curve from that for magnetization in the antiferromagnetic region. These results cannot be explained within the framework of the isotropic s-f exchange interaction model and suggest the significant role of the d-electron exchange and anisotropic effects.
