“…28 Clinically, preferential stimulation of D3 receptors is associated with the expression of behavioral addictions or ICDs in PD, as reviewed elsewhere. 1,3 Early pharmacotherapy after PD diagnosis, that is L-Dopa monotherapy vs. L-Dopa-sparing regimens relying on dopamine agonists with or without combination with L-Dopa, determine the motor and neuropsychiatric symptom profiles months and years from treatment choice. 29 While motor symptoms, dyskinesias, and motor fluctuations have been repeatedly compared between the two strategies, neuropsychiatric endpoints were not systematically studied.…”

“…Moreover, there is a role of the L-Dopa dosage in motor sensitization. 3,17,30 As such, the ELLDOPA study showed that dyskinesias occur after a delay of 40 weeks following administration of a stable dosage of L-Dopa, but more often with higher dosages. 5 Fractioning of L-Dopa is therefore considered for the management of L-Dopa-induced dyskinesia.…”

“…Dopamine dysregulation syndrome refers to the compulsive (mis)use of dopaminergic therapy. The combination of dopamine replacement therapy, coupled with predisposing individual risk factors and Parkinson's disease pathology, yields an addictive syndrome (Béreau 2018). This manifests as mood fluctuations and addictive behaviour.…”

“…Impulse control disorder-linked hypersexuality complicated by disseminated gonococcal infection in a patient with Parkinson's disease § Dopaminergic drugs (DD), especially dopamine agonists can induce impulsive and compulsive behavior (ICB) including hypersexuality in patients affected with Parkinson's disease (PD) [1][2][3]. We report a patient with PD treated with DD who experienced ICB, especially hypersexuality leading to disseminated gonococcal infection (DGI), one type of sexually transmitted infection (STI).…”

“…The assessment of the Ardouin Scale of Behavior in Parkinson's Disease (ASBPD) confirmed moderate depressive mood (2/4), marked anxiety (3/4), marked non-motor fluctuations (3/4), as well as hyperdopaminergic behaviors with rupture with anterior state including moderate hypersexuality (2/4), binge eating and dopaminergic drug abuse [4]. Rotigotine doses were subsequently reduced but this was not tolerated because of a dopamine agonist withdrawal syndrome (DAWS) dominated by anxiety and dysphoria and the patient increased the treatment of her own [1][2][3]. She was wheelchair bound during off periods but she refused both deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) as well as continuous subcutaneous apomorphine infusion.…”
