Hydroxylamine derivatives in Purex Process

Abstract: The kinetics of oxidatio~reduction reaction between N,N-diethylhydroxylamine (DEHAN) and nitrous acid in nitric acid solution have been studied by spectrophotometry at 9.5 ~ The rate equation is d[HNO2]/dt K [HNO2]. [DEHAN] [HNO3] and the rate constant K 12.81 (mol/1) 2.mi n 1. A possible mechanism has been suggested on the basis of chemical analysis and Raman spectra. The activation energy E and the thermodynamic functions AH #, AG # and AS "# are also calculated.

“…N,N-diethylhydroxylamine (DEHAN) reduces Np(VI) and Pu(IV) to Np(V) and Pu(III), respectively [23,24]. A scheme for the application of DEHAN to the U/Pu partition step and uranium purification step were proposed [25]. Uchiyama et al investigated the kinetics of the reaction between Np(VI) and butyraldehyde isomers, isobutyraldehyde and n-butyraldehyde, in nitric acid [26].…”
