Hydrosol of C70 Fullerene: Synthesis and Stability in Electrolytic Solutions

Abstract: This article is devoted to the synthesis and characterization of the hydrosol of C70 of the son/nC70 type and to its coagulation by sodium chloride and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). At C70 concentration of 3.3×10–6 M, the electrokinetic potential is ζ= –40 ± 4 mV, the particle size expressed as Zeta-average is 97±3 nm; at higher C70 concentrations, 1.7×10–5 and 6.9×10–5 M, the size stays the same: 99 – 100 nm. The critical concentration of coagulation (CCC) values, were determined using the diameter i… Show more

“…The coagulation studies are exemplified in Figure . The diameter increase rates (DIR) of the colloidal species were determined as described previously. , The CCC corresponds to the intersection of two lines. On reaching the conditions of rapid coagulation in DMSO, the colloidal particles increase during 15 min up to 150–200 nm, depending on the nature of cations, whereas in DMFup to 300 nm.…”

“… a The uncertainty of the CCC values is 15–20% for CCCs ≥70 mM; 20–25% for CCC from 1 to 70 mM; and up to 35% for lower CCC. b The CCC(NaCl) value is dependent on the hydrosol concentration; at C 70 concentrations of 3.3 × 10 –6 , 1.7 × 10 –5 , and 6.9 × 10 –5 M, CCC = 250, 145, and 130 mM, respectively; this hydrosol of son/nC 70 type was prepared by Klochkov c 150 mM in ref . d Average of 19 values reported by different authors …”
