El incremento continuo de la demanda de energía debido al desarrollo y crecimiento poblacional implica crecientes requerimientos de recursos. La alternativa es utilizar energías renovables que aprovechen recursos urbanos. La diversidad de tipologías de las ciudades en cuanto a recursos, demandas, condiciones arquitectónicas, infraestructura o densidad, hace necesario un análisis específico. En este trabajo se identifica catorce factores concernientes al proceso de planificación que permitirían escoger la tecnología más adecuada para una determinada ciudad. A través de una consulta a 78 expertos, se define que la existencia del recurso es el factor de mayor preponderancia, seguido de las condiciones económicas; en contraparte se detecta que aspectos ambientales como calentamiento global, eutrofización o acidificación, son los menos incidentes al momento de seleccionar tecnologías. palabras clave | planificación urbana, servicios urbanos, sustentabilidad urbana.abstract | Urban energy models assume that energy is imported from outside the urban area. Forecast increases in urban population and energy use intensity will increase energy requirements. One alternative is to integrate sources of renewable energy within cities boundaries. To do so, differences in urban form, resources availability, energy requirements, condition of buildings, infrastructure, and population and building density make city-specific analysis necessary. This study identifies 14 factors that urban planners should consider to make the most appropriate technology choices for a given city. Through consultation with 78 experts, the presence of renewable energy sources was selected as the most important factor, followed by economic conditions in the city. The hydropower station with a super long headrace tunnel is a significant development type for hydropower energy. By constructing a super long headrace tunnel, the huge natural water fall head can be utilized to generate more electricity. With the development of hydropower energy, a hydropower station with a super long headrace tunnel becomes more and more competitive. Compared with a hydropower station with a short headrace tunnel, the transient process and control for a hydropower station with a super long headrace tunnel is much more complicated and becomes an intractable challenge. It is well known that the transient process and control is the basis of the design and operation of a hydropower station. To overcome the challenge of the transient process and control, much research has been carried out. This paper provides a systematic review on the latest research progress of the transient process and control for hydropower stations with a super long headrace tunnel. Firstly, two key issues for the transient process and control, i.e., hydraulic design optimization of the surge tank and operation control of unit, are illuminated. Secondly, for both single surge tanks and surge tanks with special types or combinations, the hydraulic design optimization methods are described. The most disadvantageous design and advantageous operation of surge tanks under combined operating conditions are discussed. Thirdly, the stability and regulation quality of the hydro-turbine governing system under isolated and grid-connected operation conditions are presented. Finally, some trends and recommendations for future research directions are made. A research thought for establishing the complete theory and application system of the transient process and control for hydropower stations with a super long headrace tunnel from the perspective of multi-slice and multi-scale is proposed.

The Role of Renewable Energy in the Promotion of Circular Urban Metabolism

Cities are human creations requiring large amounts of materials and energy. Constant consumption of resources exerts pressure on the environment not only due to its exploitation, but also because once processed, the resources produce waste, emissions or effluents. Cities are responsible for more than three quarters of the emissions of greenhouse gases. It is anticipated that the urban population will increase by up to 80% by the mid-21st century, which will make the current energy model unsustainable, as it is based on the intensive use of fossil resources. A change in urban planning is required to meet the energy requirements of cities. Several studies mention that renewable energy must be used in cities, but they do not identify the resources and technologies that can be used to promote circular urban metabolism. A review of the literature establishes that there are eleven renewable technologies with different degrees of maturity that could reduce the import of energy resources, which would contribute to changing the metabolic linear model into a circular model. However, the applicability of the different possibilities is conditional upon the availability of resources, costs, policies and community acceptance.
