Hydroperoxide lyase modulates defense response and confers lesion‐mimic leaf phenotype in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.)

Abstract: Summary Allene oxide synthase (AOS) and hydroperoxide lyase (HPL) are two important members of P450 enzymes metabolizing hydroperoxy fatty acid to produce jasmonates and aldehydes respectively, which function in response to diverse environmental and developmental stimuli. However, their exact roles in soybean have not been clarified. In present study, we identified a lesion‐mimic mutant in soybean named NT302, which exhibits etiolated phenotype together with chlorotic and spontaneous lesions on leaves at R3 po… Show more

“…The exposure of plants to biological stresses such as pests and diseases often causes the accumulation of jasmonic acid and its derivatives. 47,48 Figure 2 indicates that when tea plants were treated with exogenous jasmonic acid methyl ester (MeJA), the expression of most of the genes in the three pathways was upregulated, but the upregulation of lignin pathway gene expression was greater than that of flavonoid pathway gene expression.…”

“…In another experiment, a BLP resistance gene/QTL was reported to be located near (21.5 cM) to the SSR marker Sat_108 on Chr 10 [ 241 , 242 ]. In a recent study, Wang et al [ 244 ] identified the role of GmHPL in Xag resistance in soybean.…”

“…Interestingly, genes encoding small peptides, such as GmSubPep , encoding a 12‐amino acid peptide (Pearce et al ., 2010), and GmPep914 , encoding an 8‐amino acid peptide (Yamaguchi et al ., 2011), also played important roles in defence against disease. It was recently found that hydroperoxide lyase modulated the defence response and conferred lesion‐mimic phenotype in soybean leaves (Wang et al ., 2020f).…”
