Hydronium Copper(II)‐tris(5‐nitrotetrazolate) Trihydrate – A Primary Explosive

Abstract: The long‐time elusive structure of the acid copper(II) salt intermediate in the production of DBX‐1 is presented. The single‐crystal X‐ray shows infinite chains of copper(II) ions complexed by six 5‐nitrotetrazolate anions are aligned along the sixfold axis. Hydronium ions are located on the threefold axis with additional neutral water molecules.

“…The energetic-MOFs are constructed by metal ions and organic ligands, such as azides, furazans, triazoles, and tetrazoles, via coordination bonds, which give one-dimensional (1D), two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) structures 1720 . Especially noteworthy is the fact that 3D frameworks usually possess more complicated connection modes than 1D and 2D frameworks, which could further enhance their structural stability 21 .…”

“…While this analysis shed light on the composition of 1 , we still felt that we had a less than complete understanding of this material. Therefore, in a separate study, a crystal of 1 was prepared by recrystallization, and the solid state structure was solved using single crystal X-ray diffraction data . The structure is presented in Figure .…”

“…The primary explosive has characteristics of starting function and sensitive to stimulus. At present, as the battlefield environment becomes more and more complex, the requirements for primary explosives are becoming more and more stringent [5][6][7]. In addition to the characteristics of high energy output and low limit priming charge, the high temperature resistance has gradually attracted attention [8][9].…”
