Hydrolytically Stable Luminescent Cationic MOF for Selective Detection of Toxic Organic Arsenic in Water

Abstract: Drugs containing organic arsenic moiety are extensively utilized as food additives in the poultry industry, and release of these organic arsenics through poultry litter to natural water bodies can prove fatal and noxious to the ecosystem. Pertaining to this, sensitive detection of organic arsenic drugs in a selective manner from livestock waste water remains pivotal but indeed very challenging. In this work, we explored a cationic MOF, viz., iMOF-12C, as a fluorescence sensor toward precise recognition of orga… Show more

“…al reported an interesting example of hydrolytically stable cationic MOF, iMOF-12C, for the precise and sensitive detection of organoarsenic compounds such as ROX and p -NIT in water. 74 iMOF-12C was synthesized from an N-donor-based linker tris(4-(1 H -imidazole-1-yl)phenyl)amine (TIPA) which was reacted under the solvothermal condition with Zn(NO 3 ) 2 and 1,5-naphthalenedisulfonic acid (NDSA) in water and DMF solvent mixture (see Fig. 7(A) for the structure of TIPA).…”

“…Crystalline and porous compounds formed by the coordination interaction between metal ions or clusters with organic ligands are called metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). 1–5 From the time of their discovery in the 1990s, MOFs have received the utmost attention because of their extensive potential applications in fields like gas adsorption and separation, 6,7 heavy metal adsorption, 8,9 catalysis, 10–15 sensing, 16–18 drug delivery, 19,20 electrical conductivity, 21 proton conductivity, 22 photocatalysis, 23 materials with magnetic properties, 24,25 and optical devices 26,27 etc . The root cause of their diverse applications is excellent stability, 28 high surface areas, 29 ordered porosity 30 and fascinating tuneable functionalities.…”
