Non-coordinated hydroxymethylphosphines react readily with primary and secondary amines by the phosphorus Mannich reaction. To determine if this reactivity can be used to synthesize phosphine macrocycles, trans-Fe(DHMPE)(2)Cl(2) (DHMPE = 1,2-bis(dihydroxymethylphosphino)ethane) was prepared and reacted with various amines. However, no phosphorus Mannich reactivity was observed. In order to understand why no reactions occurred, the Mannich reactivity of the borane-coordinated hydroxymethylphosphines DHMPE·2BH(3) and Ph(2)PCH(2)OH·BH(3) was investigated. These borane-coordinated phosphines also did not undergo the phosphorus Mannich reaction. These results suggest that the lone pair of electrons on the phosphorus atom is essential for the phosphorus Mannich reaction to occur, and therefore it is not possible to use this reaction in a templated synthesis of phosphine macrocycles. It is speculated that the mechanism of the phosphorus Mannich reaction may involve a methylenephosphonium intermediate, analogous to an iminium in the standard Mannich reaction. X-ray crystal structures of trans-Fe(DHMPE)(2)Cl(2) and DHMPE·2BH(3) are also presented. Both crystal structures display an extended hydrogen-bonding network in the solid state.

In the present research work an in situ conversion process of light-light cracked naphtha (LLCN) to strong anti-knocking mixtures is proposed as a potential solution to the serious drawbacks from the use of gasoline ether oxygenates (MTBE, ETBE, TAME) from the refineries.Aqueous biphasic Rh/TPPTS-catalysed hydroformylation reaction of olefins present in a Greek refinery naphtha cut comprises the first part of the two-step proposed process. The second part of the proposed LLCN upgrade process is the in situ hydrogenation of the produced aldehydes to the corresponding alcohols catalysed by Ru/TPPTS complex in aqueous media. Both catalytic systems of Rh/TPPTS and Ru/TPPTS were revealed as effective catalytic systems for biphasic hydroformylation and biphasic hydrogenation of complicated mixtures, respectively. The effect of the pressure, temperature and time of the reactions, as well as the influence of the L/Me molar ratio were investigated.In the first step (hydroformylation reaction) as well as in the second step (hydrogenation reaction) the highest conversion of more than 95% of the olefins and aldehydes respectively was observed at mild conditions, at a short reaction time. The upgraded LLCN could potentially replace the harmful gasoline ether oxygenates from the refinery blended gasoline pools with an in situ and an environmentally friendly catalytic process. Therefore, the ultimate fuel will contain more oxygen, due to the producing favourable strong anti-knocking alcohol mixtures; it will have better combustion properties and bigger octane numbers.

Το αντικείμενο της παρούσας διδακτορικής διατριβής είναι η μοντελοποίηση και η προσομοίωση των χημικών αντιδράσεων της υδατικής διφασικής υδροφορμυλίωσης και της υδατικής διφασικής υδρογόνωσης σύνθετων υποστρωμάτων, LLCN και HLLCNαντίστοιχα. Απώτερος σκοπός της συγκεκριμένης προσομοίωσης είναι η μελέτη και η πρόβλεψη της συμπεριφοράς του συστήματος υπό συνθήκες που δεν έχουν μελετηθεί και κατ’ επέκταση η επιλογή του κατάλληλου πειράματος που θα προσφέρει μεγαλύτερη μετατροπή στην αντίδραση. Για τη μοντελοποίηση των παραπάνω χημικών διεργασιών,έγινε χρήση της συνδυαστικής κυβικής καταστατικής εξίσωσης PR78-Twu σε συνδυασμό με τους κλασσικούς κανόνες ανάμειξης του vdW, τις βιβλιογραφικές τιμές των δυαδικών συντελεστών αλληλεπίδρασης των ενεχόμενων συστατικών και τηςCOSTALD μεθόδου υπολογισμού των πυκνοτήτων.Η πολυπλοκότητα των υποστρωμάτων (LLCN, HLLCN) και η έλλειψη βιβλιογραφικών δεδομένων των εν λόγω χημικών αντιδράσεων οδήγησαν στη διεξαγωγή σειράς πειραμάτων με σκοπό τη μελέτη επιρροής διαφόρων παραμέτρων (P, T, t, TPPTS/Rh, ολεφίνες/Rh) στην αντίδραση της διφασικής υδροφορμυλίωσης των ενεχόμενωνο λεφινών μιας πραγματικής LLCN, καταλυόμενη από το σύστημα RhCl3·3H2O/TPPTSσε υδατικό περιβάλλον. Έπειτα, το παραγόμενο υδροφορμυλίωμα αποτέλεσε το υπόστρωμα μιας νέας σειράς πειραμάτων, με σκοπό τη μελέτη της επιρροής διαφόρων παραμέτρων (P, T, t, TPPTS/Ru, αλδεΰδες/Ru, Vυδ/Vοργ) στην αντίδραση της διφασικής υδρογόνωσης των ενεχόμενων αλδεϋδών της υδροφορμυλιωμένης LLCN, καταλυόμενη από το σύστημα RuCl3·xH2O/TPPTS σε υδατικό περιβάλλον. Η in situ παραχθείσα αναβαθμισμένη LLCN αποτελεί έναν εν δυνάμει αντικαταστάτη των ρυπογόνων υδατοδιαλυτών GEOs από το pool ανάμειξης των βενζινών του διυλιστηρίου. Τα υποστρώματα των αντιδράσεων και τα προϊόντα τους αναλύθηκαν με τη μέθοδο της αεριοχρωματογραφίας σε συνδυασμό με τη φασματομετρία μαζών.Στην αντίδραση της υδροφορμυλίωσης παρατηρήθηκε η υψηλότερη μετατροπή του 95,4% των ολεφινών (70 οC, 100 bar CO/H2, 6 h). Στην αντίδραση της υδρογόνωσης σημειώθηκε μετατροπή του 100% των αλδεϋδών (90 οC, 75 bar, 8 h). Στις περισσότερες περιπτώσεις, η AARD των αποτελεσμάτων της προσομοίωσης σε σχέση με τα αντίστοιχα πειραματικά αποτελέσματα του αντιδραστήρα διατηρήθηκε υπό του 15%.
