Hydrogen production from water-glucose solution over NiO/La-NaTaO3 photocatalyst

Abstract: Abstract. This paper reports the evaluation of La-NaTaO3 photocatalyst performance in producing hydrogen from water-glucose solution. The main goal of the studies is to investigate the influence of glucose as a sacrificial reagent on the photocatalytic efficiency in water splitting reactions under ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. Photocatalyst has been fabricated via solgel method and being confirmed using x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Nickel loaded La-NaTaO3 photocatalyst are pr… Show more

“…Nowadays, energy and chemicals are produced from fossils source. Energy and environmental problems elevated by the usage and potential depletion of fossil fuels stimulate research on the new energy sources [1][2][3][4][5][6]. The increase in population and industrial development has accelerated the exploration of renewable clean energy resources such as hydrogen energy [7][8], solar energy [9][10], and biodiesel [11].…”

“…These results are consistent with the XRD patterns presented above as well. Based on previous research [ 46 ], good catalytic activity is enabled by the preservation of the support material after catalyst preparation. In addition, the metal oxide species must be highly distributed upon the surface of the support.…”

“…NaTaO 3 is also reported for photocatalytic H 2 evolution with the modifications performed by doping and composite formation. Ivanova et al have studied the effect of different noble metals (Pt, Au, and Rh) and metal oxide (NiO, CuO, Ag 2 O, RuO 2 , and CoO) cocatalysts on the photocatalytic activity of La-doped NaTaO 3 toward H 2 and O 2 evolution from water . In the reactions, overall water splitting was not observed when a single cocatalyst was used with La-NaTaO 3 .…”
