Hydrogel-based dressings in the treatment of partial thickness experimentally induced burn wounds in rats

Abstract: Purpose: To compare four commercially available hydrogel formulations in the healing of partial thickness burns experimentally induced in rats. Methods: Wistar rats were used, and after the burn wound induction they were divided into the following treatment groups: G1) NaCl 0.9%; G2) 1% silver sulfadiazine; G3) Debrigel™; G4) Safgel™; G5) Dersani™; G6) Solosite™. The animals were followed during seven, 14 and 30 days after the injury induction. Morphometric, macroscopic and microscopic evaluations were perform… Show more

“…Similarly, the alginate/pectin film in combination with modified chitosan/curcumin NPs reported comparable results at Day 18 [ 70 ], 15 days for Calendula officinalis [ 71 ], 82% of wound reduction at Day 14 for piperine carbopol hydrogels mixed with Aloe vera [ 72 ], and for chitosan hydrogels with Aloe vera , wounds heal after 13 days [ 71 , 72 ]. Other works, using commercial products such as Restaured ® , based on Aloe vera , showed almost 92% of reduction wound around Day 15 [ 31 ], and Debrigel™, based on alginate, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, and propylene glycol, exhibited 92% of contraction of partial thickness at Day 15; however, this last product was tested in burn wounds [ 73 ]. It is worth saying that none of these results report the presence of sweat glands or follicles.…”
