This work mainly aims on the investigation of phase hold-up characteristics in a column flotation at different feed solid concentrations performing for an extensive range of working conditions. Phase hold-ups are measured using the electrical resistance tomography (ERT) coupled with pressure transducers technique. Experiments are conducted for two different nature mineral particles: hydrophilic (silica) and semi-hydrophobic (oxidized coal). The impact of gas superficial velocity, feed superficial velocity and pulp slurry height for a fixed sparger and frother addition on the gas and solid dispersion are studied. Gas hold-up increases with the gas flowrate and slurry feed rate, decreases with solid concentration. Further, bubble dynamics is estimated using coupled ERT with dynamic gas disengagement (DGD) approach. It is found that the solid's presence affect the bubble swarm velocity thereby causing local gas holdup to drop. Possible mechanisms due to solid particles on gas dispersion are discussed and verified in the light of current experimental results.

Oscillatory baffled column (OBC) has a high potential for industrial application especially contacting gas and liquid phase. However, there are still lacks of research regarding the dynamics of gas-liquid phase specifically on the visualization of internal flow. Electrical Resistance Tomography (ERT) technique has capabilities to visualize mixing process internally without invading the flow. The objective of this study is to investigate the gas-liquid mixing distribution in an OBC by applying tomography technique model ITS P2000 of ERT system. The parameters investigated are phase distribution, gas hold up and power density. The experimental work was carried out in an OBC with a diameter of 145 mm and 720 mm height. The column is consisted of four planes of sixteen stainless steel ERT electrodes. The results of the research have shown that 70 mm of oscillation amplitude and 2 Hz of oscillation frequency give the best result with 73% of gas hold up and 12433.39W/m 3 .

Alternative processes have been proposed for selective separation of fluorite and gangue minerals (carbonates and silicates) present in fluorspar ores. Calcination and gravity separation processes are methods that have low efficiency and high cost. Flotation is a chemical process that becomes important when high ore grades are required; however, the selectivity is inhibited by the superficial similarity of the chemical composition of minerals. Accordingly, interactions between dissolved ionic species of fluorite, carbonates, and silicates with some reagents under determinate conditions obstruct the flotation process. In order to optimize the flotation process of a Spanish fluorite ore, this research uses a mathematical model. In this study, the variables were the dose of potato starch, quebracho tree, white dextrine, oleic acid, and sodium silicate. On the other hand, the factors studied were the law of carbonates, silica, and fluorite, in addition to the metallurgical recovery of fluorite. The statistical technique of factor analysis that relates the variables and factors allowed to the optimization of the reagent dosage. Maximum metallurgical recovery was achieved without sacrificing the fluorite grade. The mathematical model adjusts satisfactorily to the results with a correlation coefficient of 91.58% for metallurgical recovery and 98.51% for fluorite grade. Optimizing the process 60.45% of metallurgical recovery and 68.99% of fluorite grade are achieve in the roughing step, using a dosage of 1.68 g·kg−1 of potato starch, 0.86 g·kg−1 of quebracho tree, 1.25 g·kg−1 of dextrin, 3 g·kg−1 of oleic acid, and 0.85 g·kg−1 of water glass.
