Hydrodynamic Analysis and Cake Erosion Properties of a Modified Water-Based Drilling Fluid by a Polyacrylamide/Silica Nanocomposite during Rotating-Disk Dynamic Filtration

Abstract: In this study, the potential of using a polyacrylamide-silica nanocomposite (PAM-S) to control the filtration properties of bentonite water-based drilling muds under different salinity conditions was evaluated. Static filtration tests under low-pressure/low-temperature (LPLT) conditions accompanied by rheological measurements have been carried out to analyze the role of silica nanoparticles (NPs) and nanocomposites (NCs) in the base fluid properties. Moreover, high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) static filtr… Show more

“…The mud cake thickness and fluid loss volume are the two important parameters that are measured in this type of experiment. The substantial amount of fluid loss volume is a damaging aspect for drilling fluids since it may lead to many problems, such as formation damage and instability of wellbore. , The resulting pressure is effectively directed toward the formation at any point along the wellbore. This is because of the ongoing overbalance used to stop kicks from the formation.…”

“…1. Among them, acrylamide (AM) is one of the most popular, as it can be synthetized as a partial hydrolysed and anionic polymer for use as viscosifier or gelation agent [8][9][10][11][12]. In this work, polyacrylamide was synthetized and modified by Hoffman rearrangement followed by adding the Glutaraldehyde crosslinker to the solution at constant value.…”

“…Polyhydroxy-alkanolamine inhibitors can provide multiple adsorption sites on a montmorillonite surface and enhance the adsorption of inhibitors on the montmorillonite surface [14,15]. The binding of montmorillonite is mainly realized through hydrogen bonding, anchoring, electrostatic adsorption Processes 2023, 11, 3102 2 of 17 and hydrophobic action, which effectively inhibits the hydration, swelling and dispersion of montmorillonite [16][17][18]. At present, polyhydroxy-alkanolamines have excellent compatibility with traditional additives and can meet the requirements of environmental protection.…”
