Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of incorporating Nanocalcium phosphate (NCP) particles into Biodentine™ on pulpal tissue response as a direct pulp capping material (entire tooth culture model). Materials and methods: -A total of forty freshly human premolar teeth extracted for orthodontic reasons were used. After cavity preparation and mechanical pulp exposure, the teeth were divided into 2 main groups (20 teeth each) according to the capping material used; where group (M1) refers to pulps capped with Biodentine™, and group (M2) refers to pulps capped with Biodentine incorporated with NCP. Each group was further subdivided into two subgroups according to the culture period; where subgroup (P1) refers to teeth cultured for 14 days, and subgroup (P2) refers to teeth cultured for 28 days. At the end of each culture period, the teeth were histologically examined to assess the dentine bridge thickness of each group after 14 and 28 days. Moreover, elemental analysis of Calcium and Phosphorous ions in the dentine bridge was performed using SEM-EDX. Results: Direct pulp capping with Biodentine incorporated with NCP showed thicker dentine bridge when compared to Biodentine™ alone. There is a positive correlation between the weight % of Calcium and Phosphorous ions in the dentine bridge below both capping materials and the dentine bridge thickness. Conclusion: Biodentine incorporated with NCP could be a good candidate for pulp capping in the future.

ÖZTravmaya uğramıĢ veya derin çürük lezyonlarına sahip diĢlere, pulpa vitalitesinin devam etmesi için vital pulpa tedavileri uygulanmaktadır. Günümüzde en çok uygulanan vital pulpa tedavisi prosedürü, pulpa kaplamasıdır. Remineralize olabilen dekalsifiye dentin dokusunun veya ekspoz olmuĢ pulpanın biyouyumlu bir materyalle örtülmesi ve tersiyer dentin yapımının uyarılması amaçlanır. Ġki tip pulpa kaplaması yöntemi vardır: Ġndirekt pulpa kaplaması ve direkt pulpa kaplaması. Ġndirekt pulpa kaplamalarında en çok kendi kendine sertleĢebilen kalsiyum hidroksit içerikli patlar ve çinko oksit öjenol simanlar kullanılmaktadır. Ayrıca, adeziv sistemler gibi alternatif pulpa kaplaması materyallerinin kullanımı da gündeme gelmiĢtir. Toz kalsiyum hidroksit, direkt pulpa kaplamalarında geleneksel olarak kullanılan en güvenilir materyal iken günümüzde mineral trioksit agregat altın standart olarak kabul edilir. Bu derlemenin amacı, pulpanın canlılığını korumak için açık pulpa üzerine veya pulpaya çok yaklaĢıldığında dentine yerleĢtirilen, yeni nesil biyouyumlu taban materyallerini (liner ve(ya) base) değerlendirmektir. Anahtar kelimeler: pulpa kaplaması, kalsiyum hidroksit, adeziv, mineral trioksit agregat, trikalsiyum silikat siman. PULPA KAPLAMALARITravmaya uğramıĢ (malokluzyon, atrizyon, abrazyon, erozyon, mekanik travma) veya derin çürük lezyonlarına sahip diĢlere, pulpa vitalitesinin devam etmesi için vital pulpa tedavisi uygulanmaktadır. Koronal pulpanın uzaklaĢtırılması ise ABSTRACTThe vital pulp treatments are applied to the teeth with deep caries lesion or trauma for the purpose of maintaining the vitality of pulp. Nowadays, the most commonly performed treatment procedure is vital pulp capping. It is intended that the decalcified dentine which can be remineralized or exposed pulp are sealed with a biocompatible material and promotion of tertiary dentin formation. There are two types of pulp capping procedure: direct and indirect pulp capping. Traditionally, self-curing calcium hydroxide paste and zinc oxide-eugenol are carried out in indirect pulp capping. Furthermore, the use of alternative pulp capping materials such as adhesive systems has also been on the agenda. Even as, powdered calcium hydroxide conventionally used in direct pulp capping is the most reliable material; at the present time mineral trioxide aggregate is considered as the gold standard. Aim of this review is to evaluate new generation biocompatible base materials (liner and/or base) that used on exposed pulp or remained small amount of dentine over the pulp in order to maintain the vitality of the pulp.
