Hybrid TDOA/AOA Localization Algorithm for GPS Jammers

Abstract: For a localization system, the TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival) measurement and AOA (Angle of Arrival) measurement are often used for estimating target's positions. Although it is known that the accuracy of TDOA based localization is superior to that of AOA based one, it may have a poor vertical accuracy in bad geometrical conditions. This paper, therefore, proposes a localization algorithm in which the vertical position is estimated by AOA measurements and the horizontal one is estimated by TDOA measurement … Show more

“…However, this TDOA-AOA combined algorithm requires calculating the Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRLB) and shows high complexity. Lim and Kang [14,15] proposed vertical position estimation based on AOA localization algorithm and horizontal position estimation based on TDOA localization algorithm. This method could achieve high 3D positioning accuracy but does not consider the measurement errors caused by the environment of the equipment.…”

“…The last type of method to handle NLOS in wireless sensor networks is the hybrid method, and it applies TDOA/AOA [17] or TOA/AOA [18] to estimate the hybrid locations. This kind of method can improve the precision of estimated locations to a certain extent, but when the error of some measured value from one method exceeds the threshold, the result is still bad.…”

“…So, a more active solution such as spoofer localization is required. Until now, some jammer localization methods have used time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) and hybrid TDOA/angle-of-arrival (Lindström et al 2007, Bhatti et al 2012, Cetin et al 2014, Lim et al 2014. In these cases, array processing has been used for localizing the jamming signal source.…”
