Hybrid repair of isolated internal iliac artery aneurysm

Abstract: The best operation method for an isolated internal iliac artery aneurysm remains controversial. We report on a repair of an isolated internal iliac artery aneurysm. A 78-year-old man was referred to our facility for treatment of a left isolated internal iliac artery aneurysm. At first, we embolized the arteries distal to the aneurysm using coils and vascular plugs. Two weeks later, we performed open surgery. We resected the aneurysm wall through a transperitoneal approach only with proximal blood flow control … Show more

“…There is a general agreement that iliac artery aneurysms exceeding 3 cm in diameter should be electively treated to prevent rupture (Muradi et al 2014 ; Gao et al 2018 ). Endovascular treatment is a safer alternative to open repair, the latter of which has been associated with a high perioperative mortality rate (Domoto et al 2019 ; Kawatani and Oguri 2020 ; Machado et al 2016 ). With a limited number of publications on the subject, this study aims to assess the technical feasibility of using stent-graft and vascular plug or coils for the treatment for IIAA, and to determine variables associated with treatment outcome.…”
