Hybrid Nd-Fe-B/barium ferrite magnetic materials with epoxy matrix

Abstract: Lately a great attention has been paid to the research of bonded hybrid composites with improved dynamic mechanical capacities capable of replacing bonded Nd-Fe-B magnetic materials, by using the cheaper (ferrite) materials instead of the Nd-Fe-B powder while retaining the satisfying values of the maximal magnetic energy. The objective of this study is to assess how different contents of Nd-Fe-B and/or barium ferrite particles can affect morphological, dynamic mechanical and magnetic properties of bonded… Show more

“…Moreover, higher Hc value in the hybrid bonded magnet Ba-Ferrite/NdFeB generates higher resistency in demagnetization. The magnetic particle NdFeB will be protected by Ba-Ferrite particle because Ba-Ferrite particle has good corrosion resistance properties [6]. The SEM result of the hybrid bonded magnet with 70% Ba-Ferrite, 30% NdFeB, and 5% ER is shown in Fig.…”

“…The Nd-Fe-B alloy has excellent magnetic properties compared to the ferrite magnet, but the raw material and fabrication cost is also more expensive [5]. The hard magnetic alloys such as Nd-Fe-B and Ba-Ferrite are identified as suitable for research and further development of magnetic composite materials with polymer matrix, so called as bonded magnets [5,6]. There are several different technical approaches for bonded magnet production, and the compression moulding is the most common technique utilized for materials with thermosetting polymer matrices [7,8].…”
