Hybrid liposomes showing enhanced accumulation in tumors as theranostic agents in the orthotopic graft model mouse of colorectal cancer

Abstract: Hybrid liposomes (HLs) can be prepared by simply sonicating a mixture of vesicular and micellar molecules in a buffer solution. This study aimed to elucidate the therapeutic effects and ability of HLs to detect (diagnosis) cancer in an orthotopic graft mouse model of colorectal cancer with HCT116 cells for the use of HLs as theranostic agents. In the absence of a chemotherapeutic drug, HLs exhibited therapeutic effects by inhibiting the growth of HCT116 colorectal cancer cells in vitro, possibly through an inc… Show more

“…26,55,56,57,58,59,6 Immunocompetent and immunodeficient mice with xenografted tumors are traditionally transplanted subcutaneously or orthotopically. 61,62 These models are widely used due to their availability, low cost, and ability to mimic attributes of human malignancies by recapitulating neoplastic cell architecture and conserving genetic and phenotypic biology at the histological and molecular models. 55 This makes PDX models the favored method of identifying drugs that significantly inhibit tumor growth, validating tumor biomarkers, and predicting treatment outcomes.…”

“…[9][10][11] Despite advancements in treatment methods to cope with the adverse effects of chemotherapy, these methods still have drawbacks towards the comfort and needs of chemotherapy patients. [12][13][14] Other therapies, such as surgical resection, can be complicated by massive bleeding and other side effects. 6 Radiotherapy risks patients of having skin toxicity, pelvic fractures and infertility.…”
