Hybrid Filter Applications for Power Quality Improvement of Power Distribution Networks Utilizing Renewable Energies

Abstract: Abstract-A hybrid filter constructed of a shunt active filter and distributed passive filters used for power quality improvement in dispersed generation system is presented. The distribution system consists of several kinds of renewable energies as DG units where the power quality problems due to dispersed generation LV systems are introduced and the necessity of using hybrid filters instead of active or passive filters alone are discussed. The simulations are done with PSCAD/EMTDC for a distribution system wi… Show more

“…Moreover, some advanced modulation techniques for DG inverters are also reported in the literature to ensure distortion-free injection of active power into the grid [47]. However, compensation of the harmonics associated with local nonlinear loads is possible through active filters [48], hybrid filters [49], smart impedance [50] and by incorporating multifunction PQ ancillary services in traditional DGs, i.e. the concept of multifunctional DGs [51].…”

“…The development and search for technology capable of improving the productivity and efficiency of industrial processes, or even of household equipment, have influenced the use of switched electronic converters and static drives, which results in nonlinear loads connected to the power grid [1]. In addition, the distributed generation (DG) increase in low voltage power systems has caused an increase of the harmonic distortions [2].…”
