Hybrid anti‐jamming algorithm for Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System receivers using variational mode decomposition and wavelet packet transform

Abstract: Summary Continuous wave interference has found to be one of the major menaces that deter the performance of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) receivers for seamless positioning and navigation. In this paper, a novel hybrid jamming mitigation method based on variational mode decomposition (VMD) and wavelet packet transform (WPT) has been proposed. VMD is used to decompose the received signal into various components referred to as intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). To have an optimum decompos… Show more

“…Some of the most used time-frequency anti-jamming methods in GNSS receivers are Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) (Abedi et al, 2018;Ouyang & Amin, 2001), Matched Signal Transform (MST) (Shen & Papandreou-suppappola, 2005), Wigner Ville Distribution (WVD) (Fadaei, 2016), and WT (Chien, 2018;Mosavi et al, 2015Mosavi et al, , 2017Musumeci & Dovis, 2013). In recent years, wavelet-based methods have also been used to mitigate CW jamming (Jagiwala & Shah, 2021;Silva Lorraine & Ramarakula, 2021b, 2021c and outof-band Wi-Fi interference on IRNSS S-band signals . STFT is a windowed-Fourier transform that uses a fixed window; hence, the timefrequency resolution of STFT remains constant.…”

“…The literature reports several detection and mitigation techniques for the suppression of interference in GNSS receivers (Borio, 2021;Fadaei, 2016;Morales-ferre et al, 2019;Silva Lorraine & Ramarakula, 2021a). In addition, many works were done to deal with the interference of IRNSS signals (Dey et al, 2019(Dey et al, , 2021, 2021Silva Lorraine & Ramarakula, 2021b, 2021c. Recently, a new framework for detecting GNSS jamming in moving platforms with a low computational burden was proposed (Sharifi-tehrani et al, 2020).…”

“…If there is no prior information, blind source separation [141] can be used to recover the original signal through the statistical information of mixed signal. To address the Continuous Wave Interference (CWI) of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), Silva et al [142] proposed a new method based on Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) and Wavelet Packet Transform (WPT) hybrid anti-jamming algorithm. VMD is used to decompose Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs) from the mixed signal.…”
