Hyaluronidase and degranulation inhibitors from the edible roots of Oenanthe javanica including seric acids F and G that were obtained by heating

Abstract: Oenanthe javanica is a vegetable grown in East Asia and Australia in which the roots and aerial parts are boiled together to make certain traditional dishes. Nineteen compounds (1-19) were isolated from O. javanica roots and the chemical structures of 2 new norlignans were determined. The inhibitory effects of the compounds on hyaluronidase and degranulation in RBL-2H3 cells were evaluated to determine antiallergic and antiinflammation activities. Saponins (2-4) and the new norlignan seric acid G (12) were amo… Show more

“…Rosmarinic acid oligomers (trimer IC 50 = 275 µM; tetramer IC 50 = 183 µM) blocked Hyal more potent than rosmarinic acid (IC 50 = 309 µM). Activity against hyalurinidase is also shown by seric acid A (IC 50 = 119 µM), F (IC 50 = 1330 µM), and G (IC 50 = 1270 µM) isolated from the Oenanthe javanica root ( Figures 3 and 4 ) ( Table 4 ) 48 .…”

“…[22][23][24] The β-hexosaminidase release assay has been used as an alternative to the histamine release assay in several studies. 25,26 β-Hexosaminidase release assays were performed to evaluate the degranulation inhibitory activity of the 2 compounds. Compounds 1 and 2 showed considerable degranulation inhibitory activity from 0.63 to 2.5 mM and 1.25 to 2.5 mM, respectively, in a concentration-dependent manner, without cytotoxicity (Figure 6A and B).…”

“…Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that degrades HA. Inhibitors of hyaluronidase are expected to control the amount of HA, and inhibition activities of this enzyme have been hypothesized to relate to anti-allergic activity [56,57]. Dracocephalum foetidum (Lamiaceae) is a herbal plant used to treat inflammatory conditions.…”
