Abstract:Hyaluronic acid (HA) is the main component of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) synovial fluid. Arthritis in temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) disrupts HA metabolism, resulting in shorter polymeric chain predominance and increased friction. Intra-articular injections of HA supplement the larger molecules of this glycosaminoglycan, and the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) delivered in this way releases growth factors, suppressing inflammation.
