Hvilken innvirkning har barnehagens fysiske utemiljø på barns lek og de ansattes pedagogiske praksis i uterommet.

Abstract: The main objective of this study was to explore children's activities on preschool playgrounds, and how different playground features (topography, equipment, size, location etc.) affected children's play. The study aimed to contribute with knowledge on how outdoor environments encourage different kinds of play and learning for preschool children. The data collection was based on the methodology of "mosaic approach", which is a multi-method focusing on children's perspectives (Clark & Moss, 2001; Clark & Moss, … Show more

“…In addition, the relationship between Joachim and Andrew also most probably developed. This example expands our understanding of what several researchers have found before, namely that teachers' involvement in play is positive for children's movement opportunities (Bjørgen, 2016;Bjørgen & Svendsen, 2015;Hagen, 2015). Morrissey, Scott & Rahimi (2017) highlight how important it is for children's growth and change that preschool teachers are attuned to the children's playful situations.…”

“…Teachers' involvement in child-managed play is found to be positive for children's participation in movement play (Hagen, 2015). When staff show interest and express warmth and involvement, children's stamina for movement exploration increases (Bjørgen, 2016).…”

“…In a learning perspective, this means that the moment children master a challenge within their Zone of Proximal Development, there is a new one ready at hand. Such complexity and fine variation was previously reported to be a prominent feature of natural environments (Hagen, 2015;Mårtensson, 2004). Even if commercial fixed installations attempt to simulate this, similar examples of long and elaborate play-including many children in diverse play-was not observed on fixed installations in this study.…”

“…As mentioned, the qualitative analysis reveals differences in use of fixed installations and natural environments. Previous studies have shown that fixed installations are in little use throughout the day, despite dominating the outdoor environment (Hagen, 2015). In this study, inappropriate affordance might be reflected in low frequencies of risky play among the youngest children outdoors.…”

“…Slike områder stimulerer også til fordypet og kreativ lek (Fasting 2015). Nyere studier viser at barn foretrekker områder som gir god mulighet for variasjon og uforutsigbarhet (Engdahl 2014;Hagen 2015). Dette bekrefter viktigheten av å tilrettelegge for aktiviteter i naturområder.…”
