Humphrey Matrix Perimetry in Optic Nerve and Chiasmal Disorders: Comparison with Humphrey SITA Standard 24-2

Abstract: The new Humphrey Matrix 24-2 testing strategy provides a visual field testing method for optic nerve and chiasmal disorders that has fair to good concordance with the Humphrey SITA Standard 24-2 program. Both tests have similar sensitivity and specificity.

“…[9] FDT perimetry seems unable to accurately differentiate and categorize hemianopic, quadrantranopic, or glaucomatous field defects. [10] However, the second generation FDT (Humphrey Matrix) was found to have fair-to-good concordance with SAP for optic nerve and chiasmal disorders[11] and a marginally lesser sensitivity in detecting homonymous hemianopia. [12]…”

“…The Humphrey Matrix provided a number of enhancements to FDT perimetry, including: the use of Zippy Estimation of Sequential Threshold (ZEST), a Bayesian forecasting procedure for estimating detection sensitivity; smaller (5° × 5°) targets with a number of different stimulus configurations (30-2, 24-2, and (2° × 2° targets) 10-2 and Macula tests); direct monitoring of eye position using a video camera display system; a more extensive analysis and test printout system; a greater amount of statistical analysis; enhanced storage and data transfer procedures; and many additional features. [93][94][95][96][97][98] The development of the Humphrey Matrix and the normative database and statistical analysis package has been published, 93 and performance characteristics of the Humphrey Matrix has been reported for glaucoma and other ocular and neurologic conditions. [94][95][96][97][98] Primers that give a brief description of the FDT and Matrix tests, their underlying basis, and an assortment of results for different ocular and neurologic conditions have been made available for interested users for both instruments.…”

“…20,23 There are several studies demonstrating the value of FDT-Matrix in neurological deficit testing. [24][25][26][27][28] Visual function in AD is an essential subject that has been previously studied by objective methodology, including pattern electroretinography (pERG). [29][30][31] This study uses FDT perimetry to investigate possible impairment of the MGC pathway in patients with mild AD.…”
