Humoral immunity in root caries in an elderly population. I.

Abstract: IgA, IgG and IgM antibody activity (ELISA Units/ml) to Streptococcus mutans, Actinomyces viscous and Escherichia coli CF8 in serum, parotid saliva and whole saliva was measured using the amplified ELISA (a-ELISA) while the concentration (microgram/ml) of each isotype of immunoglobulin as well as albumin and lactoferrin, was determined using sandwich ELISAs. Selection of suitable reagents from those commercially available was based on specificity tests using purified human immunoglobulin; most polyclonal reagen… Show more

“…a systemic protein marker to evaluate epithelial leakage of serum-derived protein (57,58). The correlation of HSA and immune parameters was studied in CVS (40 HIV1-infected women), saliva (30 HIV1-infected subjects), and breast milk (17 HIV1-infected women) ( Table 6).…”

“…This enzyme activity can be inhibited by freezing with glycerol or, theoretically, by antiprotease enzymes, although the assay of some antibodies is reported to be unaffected by storage at ϩ4°C, even for several days (14). Second, immunoglobulin concentrations in OF are much lower than in serum and may be subject to diurnal and monthly variation (2). At low concentrations the relative importance of methodological differences due to variation in specimen collection and sample storage is much greater, yet there is little previous validation of OF sampling methods for assays of bacterial antibodies.…”
