RESUMOA pesquisa objetivou identifi car e analisar os elementos que conformam as representações de profi ssionais de enfermagem e usuários sobre a humanização no cuidado; e discutir estratégias que contribuam para a implementação da Política Nacional de Humanização. Participaram doze profi ssionais que atuam no cuidado de enfermagem e quinze usuários adultos hospitalizados, todos da clínica médica de um hospital público, federal. Realizaram-se entrevistas semiestruturadas individuais, a que se aplicou posteriormente a técnica de análise temática de conteúdo. As concepções sobre humanização remetem às questões sociais, que mostram a relação entre o profi ssional e o usuário no cuidado; e gerenciais, que mostram as difi culdades e facilidades no âmbito assistencial para uma assistência humanizada. O debate com os sujeitos envolvidos no processo apresenta-se como estratégia para o alcance dos preceitos da Política Nacional de Humanização. ABSTRACTThis research aimed to identify and analyze the elements that constitute the representations of nurses and users about the humanization of care, and to discuss strategies that can contribute to the implementation of the National Humanization Policy. Twelve professionals who were working effectively in nursing care and fi fteen users hospitalized adults participated in the research, all of the medical clinic of a federal public hospital. Semi-structured individual interviews were used to generate data, to which the technique of thematic content analysis was applied. The conceptions about humanization refer to social issues, which show the relationship between professionals and users in nursing care; and, also, to management issues, which show the diffi culties in health care facilities to obtain a humanized approach. The discussion with those involved in the process presents itself as a strategy for the scope of the precepts of the National Policy of Humanization. Background: Intensive care units (ICUs) concentrate seriously ill patients, requiring professionals to strive to deliver high-quality care.Objective: The objective of the study was to assess patients' perceptions of the quality of care delivered by staff who underwent training about humanized care in a private hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Methods:This was an exploratory study in a cardiac intensive unit of a private general hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The convenience sample consisted of 30 patients. Dependent variables were analyzed using McNemar's nonparametric test for repeated measures, considered suitable because of the nominal scale. Percentage differences were calculated using the following equation: ∆%= [(post-test -pretest)*100/test] with significance set at <0.05.Results: Improvements were observed in quality of patient care (∆% = 38.1%, p = 0.031) and clarification of patients' clinical condition (∆% = 25%, p = 0.021), in addition to perceived room temperature (∆ % = 40%, p = 0.008) and ambient noise (∆% = 52.6%, p = 0.002). Conclusion:It was concluded that quality of care improved significantly after staff training, demonstrating the essential nature of ongoing education.
