Human Vγ9/Vδ2 effector memory T cells express the killer cell lectin-like receptor G1 (KLRG1)

Abstract: The killer cell lectin-like receptor G1 (KLRG1) is expressed in natural killer (NK) cells and effector memory alphabeta T cells. Gammadelta T cells represent an unconventional lymphocyte population that shares characteristics of NK cells and T cells and links innate and adaptive immunity. Vgamma9/Vdelta2 T cells comprise the majority of peripheral human gammadelta T cells and respond to the microbial metabolite (E)-4-hydroxy-3-methyl-but-2-enyl pyrophosphate (HMB-PP). Here, we demonstrate that KLRG1 is express… Show more

“…Similar to NK cells, γδ T cells have little effect on murine LCMV infection and CTL-mediated clearance , Eberl et al 2005. γδ T cells have been implicated in immunosurveillance of tumours and infections via cytokine secretion and cytolysis (Poccia et al 2002, Jacobs et al 2005.…”

“…Since CD3 + CD16 + cells often include γδ T cells (Eberl et al 2005), we also examined that population using flow cytometry. Vγ9 T cells, which represent approximately 80% of the γδ T cells in primate peripheral blood, exhibited a similar pattern of reduction in the percentage and absolute numbers as the NK cells (CD3 -CD8 + ) after the second day of infection (Fig.…”

“…Human KLRG1 is also found on a subset of γδ T cells (Eberl et al 2005) and in a large proportion of CD4 + and CD8 + T cells found in cord blood (Marcolino et al 2004). In young adults, the expression of KLRG1 is about 40% on CD8 + T cells and 20% on CD4 + T cells (Voehringer et al 2002).…”

“…It is well known that gdT cells express several NK receptors [31] and that their activity is regulated by both positive and inhibitory signals transduced by cell surface receptors including the C-type lectin family, immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily and natural cytotoxicity receptors [32][33][34]. To characterize the activation state as well as NK and chemokine receptor expression, PE-gdT from TB and PB-gdT from TB and HS were analysed by flow cytometry.…”
