Abstract: The international Palermo Protocol (2000) was adopted and ushered in an international emphasis on understanding the exploitation of individuals through forced labor and commercialized sex. By referencing current scholarly literature, this entry provides an overview of sex trafficking, including its prevalence, the recruitment tactics of perpetrators, and responses to sex trafficking.
