CV-1 cells infected with a VV double recombinant for the L1 and L2 open reading frames (ORFs) of HPV-16 produced virus-like particles (VLPs; Zhou et al, 1991), with capsomeres similar in appearance to those seen in HPV-1 and bovine PV type 1 (BPV-1) particles purified from clinical lesions (Baker et al, 1991 ;Staquet et al, 1981).
