Mpox virus infection (MPXV) has recently been recognized as a public health emergency by the World Health Organization. While several studies have described the clinical characteristics of MPXV-oral lesions, there remains a dearth of information regarding the histological and ultrastructural oral findings. A 24-year-old HIV-positive man presented with a shallow ulcer, covered by a fibrinoid membrane, and surrounded by an erythematous halo in the hard and soft palate. The clinical appearance of the lesion raised suspicion of a viral infection; thus, the diagnosis was based on histological and electronic microscopy findings and confirmed by RT-PCR testing in the skin specimen. This case report aims to offer comprehensive insights into the clinical, histopathological, and ultrastructural features of oral lesions caused by MPXV in an individual with HIV. This report provides valuable information about the characteristics of MPXV infection in the oral mucosa, particularly in people living with HIV.

Com o crescente número de casos das doenças sarampo e monkeypox, o cirurgião-dentista possui grande importância no diagnóstico precoce, devido a características e manifestações orais das condições, que podem surgir até mesmo antes das manifestações sistêmicas. O objetivo desse trabalho foi identificar as alterações bucais decorrentes do sarampo e da monkeypox, evidenciando as características dessas lesões bucais. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura realizada sob os parâmetros da estratégia PRISMA, com busca nas bases de dados Pubmed, Scielo, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), e EBSCO Host. Após a aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, 14 artigos foram selecionados para caracterização. O sarampo possui um sinal patognomônico na cavidade bucal, denominada mancha de Koplik, surgem como inúmeras máculas branco-azuladas, com tamanhos de 1 a 3 mm, circundadas por um halo eritematoso. Já a monkeypox apresenta-se como lesões bolhosas de formato esférico e borda avermelhada, circunscritas e de raízes profundas, medindo de 2 a 5 mm de diâmetro. O sarampo e a monkeypox são considerados doenças reemergentes por apresentar um aumento significativo dos casos nos últimos anos, o que aumenta as chances de cirurgiões-dentistas se depararem com as lesões orais da doença. Logo, é de suma importância o conhecimento sobre o assunto para que assim, possam contribuir para o diagnóstico precoce e consequentemente regressão dos casos.

The uncontrolled spread of infectious diseases over a long period of time can cause epidemic. The pattern of spread of an infectious disease can be described through a mathematical model called an epidemic model. The development of the SIR epidemic model which assumes that recovered individuals have temporary immunity so that they can be re-infected is called the SIRS epidemic model. Quarantine is an effort to restrict movement to prevent the transmission of disease among individuals in a society. The SIQRS epidemic model is a modification of the SIRS model which assumes a quarantine phase for infected individuals. The SIQRS epidemic model that follows the Markov process and changes in the number of individuals are viewed in continuous time is the SIQRS continuous time Markov chain (CTMC) epidemic model. Monkeypox or monkeypox is an infectious disease that has hit several countries in Central and West Africa. The aims of this research are to explain the CTMC SIQRS epidemic model and compare the simulation results between the CTMC SIQRS and CTMC SIRS epidemic models on the spread of monkeypox. The research’s method is literature study by discussing relevant theories and previous research. The results of this research are the CTMC SIQRS model in the form of transition probabilities. The simulation of CTMC SIRS epidemic model on the spread of monkeypox shows that the end of epidemic occur at days years, whereas in the CTMC SIQRS model, the end of epidemic occur at days years. Therefore, it was concluded that the quarantine phase can speed up the end of the epidemic.
