“…Both HHV-6 and -7 are shed in the saliva (Black et al, 1993;Cone et aL, 1993;Frenke| & Wyatt, 1992). Hybridization analysis of viral DNA indicates that HHV-7 is distinct from any other herpesvirus, with the exception of HHV-6, with which it shares limited sequence homology (Berneman et al, 1992a;Frenkel et al, 1990).…”

“…In relation to this, we previously reported that HHV-7 causes exanthem subitum, as does HHV-6 (Tanaka et al, 1994). Since it was reported that there is antigenic crossreaction between HHV-7 and HHV-6 (Wyatt et al, 1991 ;Berneman et al, 1992 b ;Foa' -Tomasi et al, 1994, 1996Black et al, 1996), for the present study, we have chosen human sera having antibodies specific to HHV-7. The sera were taken from patients with ES whose antibody titre to HHV-7 increased BBDF N. Nakagawa and others N. Nakagawa and others during the convalescent phase of ES, while that to HHV-6 did not.…”

“…Using sequence analysis, HHV-7 is more closely related to HHV-6 than to other human herpesviruses (Berneman et al, 1992 b ;Mukai et al, 1995 ;Nicholas, 1996). It was also reported that HHV-7 shares common epitopes with HHV-6 (Wyatt et al, 1991).…”
