Human Health Effects of Heavy Metal Pollution in the Cross-Border Area of Romania and Serbia: A Review

Abstract: This review illustrates the state of air, water and soil pollution with heavy metals resulting from mining activities in the cross-border area of Romania and the Republic of Serbia. It also emphasizes the possible human health effects that certain heavy metals can cause. The heavy metals that were identified as polluting the air, water, and/or soil in the area of interest are: As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, and Zn. Acute or chronic exposure to these heavy metals may cause numerous human health effects… Show more

“…Studies of sediments in canals and rivers tributaries [42,43] found that there is a risk of heavy metals pollution. Isvoran et al [44] point to the problem of heavy metal pollution, originating from the mining industry, which reaches the Danube through its tributaries. Finally, although the anthropogenic impact on the quality of watercourses is far more intensive, natural factors, i.e.…”

“…There are not many pieces of research on risk communication as a system to verify the structural relationship of variables within the system. However, there are not many similar types of research on verifying the structural relationship of conceptual dimensions [25][26][27]. In the research of sports competition anger, firstly, four dimensions of the concept of middle school students' sports competition anger are put forward, namely, anger stressor, anger cognitive evaluation, anger reaction, and anger expression, and then the mechanism of the four dimensions is discussed (Fig.…”

“…Extremely low concentration can also threaten human health through the bioaccumulation of the food chain, such as brain injury, kidney disease, etc. [1][2][3]. There are many detection methods of Hg 2+ , such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS), inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), et al [4][5][6][7][8].…”
