Abstract:Article HistoryThis study investigates whether human capital serves as a pushing factor of exports of goods and services. Thus, this study takes four South Asian countries such as Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka into an account to test the relationship between human capital and export performance. The time series data that were extracted from the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program statistical databases, running from 1990 to 2015, used for data analysis. Following the Hausman… Show more
“…It is a significant determinant of EP. This finding is consistent with prior research regarding the key role of HC in the performance of firms operating in Indonesia (Muh & Murwaningsari, 2019;Ngatno, Apriatni, & Widayanto, 2016), in South Asia (Bhavan, 2017), and in Latin America (Calix et al, 2015) Hejazi et al (2016). However, no significant associations are found in Iran (Muh and Murwaningsari, 2019) or Indonesia, especially in the province of Banten.…”
This study is one of the first empirical studies on intellectual capital (IC) in South American textile exporting companies. Using the resources and capabilities approach, we examine how certain intangibles can provide competitive advantages. We propose and test a model capturing the relationships between IC components and export performance (EP), as well as the various interrelationships among the different dimensions of IC. Using a sample of textile manufacturers operating in Peru, an emerging economy, we find that both human capital and structural capital have a significantly positive influence on EP. However, the data analysis does not confirm that relational capital has any positive influence on export performance.

“…This indicates that any HDI change does not affect West Java exports. This finding contrasts with Contractor and Mudambi (2008) and Bhavan (2017) YouTube, can be used as a medium for socializing KITE facilities which are carried out digitally. The socialization was carried out broadly but still focused on regions that are exportoriented industrial centers.…”

“…For Indonesia, HDI is strategic because it measures how the government performs and is also used as one of the allocators of The General Allocation Fund (DAU). Bhavan (2017) carried out a study with HDI as the independent variable and exports as the dependent variable.…”
West Java is a province with the largest contribution to national export value. In 2018, the export contribution in West Java reached 16.89% of the total national export value. However, in recent years, West Java's trade balance shows that the rate of increase in imports is relatively high, especially for industrial needs. It indicates that West Java has a high dependence on imports, and if it is not controlled, it can cause a deficit in the trade balance. Therefore, the government's role is needed to increase export value to offset the import value increase. This study aims to determine the effect of KITE facilities, exchange rate, interest rate, and Human Development Index (HDI) on the export value of West Java. This research uses the quantitative method based on secondary data from monthly time series for 2016-2019. Analysis of research data using the Error Correction Model (ECM). Research result indicates that only the interest rate negatively and significantly affects West Java's export value. Meanwhile, the KITE facility, exchange rate, and the HDI partially do not affect the export value of West Java. However, the KITE facility, exchange rate, interest rate, and HDI simultaneously affect the export value of West Java.
“…Human capital of countries in South Asia because these countries have experienced trade deficits for the past few decades and looks for strategies to overcome the problem [12], this study is formulated with the aim of investigating whether human resource development is associated with export performance. In these countries because the external sector requires a highly skilled workforce to implement strategies such as diversifying products, markets and resources and moreover, minimizing production and transportation costs, developing trade networks and communication skills, etc.…”
ASEAN economy has undergone a shift, as has the structure of the global economy. The shift in the economy that occurred was from the main share of the agricultural sector to the industrial sector and the service sector. From year to year, the ASEAN service sector continues to experience positive growth with an increasing contribution beyond that of other sectors. ASEAN's service exports grew higher than ASEAN's goods exports. There are still several ASEAN member countries that experience a trade deficit in services, which is interesting to investigate further. This study aims to analyze the performance of service exports in 10 ASEAN member countries from 2010 to 2019. The results of panel data regression using the WLS fixed effect model show that foreign direct investment, nominal exchange rate, gross domestic product, services value added, gross domestic product, labor force, human capital and communication facilities have a significant effect on ASEAN's service export. The development of communication technology, development of human resources and updating of important policies are considered by the government to improve the performance of service exports of ASEAN member countries.
