Human adipose stem cells induced to osteogenic differentiation by an innovative collagen/hydroxylapatite hybrid scaffold

Abstract: Novel biomaterials are of paramount importance for bone regrowth. In this study, we investigated human adipose stem cells (hASCs) for osteogenic, osteoconductivity, and osteoinductivity effects of an innovative collagen/hydroxylapatite hybrid scaffold. In hASCs that were grown on this scaffold, osteogenic genes were analyzed for their expression profiles, together with adhesion and extracellular matrix genes. In hASC integrins, basement membrane constituents and collagens were up-regulated, together with cell … Show more

“…These cells are positive for surface markers CD13, CD29, CD44, CD73, CD90, and CD105, CD166, whereas they are negative for other markers, such as CD14, CD31, and CD45. Cells were expanded in Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium F‐12 (DMEM/F12; Lonza, Milan, Italy), as previously described . Primary hASC cultures were grown (i) in the presence of the osteogenic condition (OC) only; (ii) on the biomaterial Coll/ Pro Osteon 200; (iii) in the tissue culture polystyrene (TCPS) vessels, the control .…”
