Huella de Carbono para el desarrollo sostenible empresarial: Una revisión sistemática de la literatura

Abstract

During the years 2013-2023, CO2 emissions to the atmosphere increased by 88% due to the lack of optimal production systems and a low level of awareness about the care of the planet, which is aggravated by climate change, environmental pollution, water scarcity and different factors. In this sense, this systematic review aimed to describe the bibliometric and content aspects regarding Carbon Footprint as a tool for sustainable business development. In this sense, a search was initiated in various scientific databases such as: Scopus, Scielo, Redalyc, among others. For this purpose, the following keywords were used: carbon footprint, environmental analysis, greenhouse gas emissions, agricultural sustainability, environmental impact assessment, environmental impacts, CO2 emissions, greenhouse gases. Subsequently, inclusion and exclusion criteria corresponding to the presence of the study variable in the title, language, year of publication, publication in open Access, type of research, quantitative results of the study, among other criteria were applied. The bibliometric results show that research on carbon footprint is generally published in English (83%) while to a lesser extent it can be identified in Spanish (17%). On the other hand, Scopus, Scielo, Redalyc and Fuente Académica Plus are the databases with the most research on this topic. In terms of content results, tools associated with carbon footprint and the most relevant effects measured in the collected research were identified. Finally, it was concluded that carbon footprint is a critical factor in industries due to the high CO2 emissions present at all times. Companies cannot achieve sustainable business development if their activities have a negative impact on ecosystems. Therefore, awareness and support from all productive sectors must be sought to mitigate the carbon footprint as a sustainability advantage for organizations and society.
