The Effect of Family Social Support and School Climate on Students’ Learning Motivation

This study is intended 1) to determine the effect of family social support on students’ motivation to learn Islamic education, 2) to determine the effect of school climate on students’ motivation to learn Islamic education, 3) to find out the effect of family social support and school climate on students’ motivation to learn Islamic education. This study uses a quantitative approach through correlation research design. The subject of this study is the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Ngadiluwih. The sample used is 175 students using simple random sampling technique. The data are analyzed by using simple and multiple linier regression analysis. The results of the study show that 1) there is an influence of family social support on student motivation to learn Islamic education which has an effect of 18.2 percent, and the remaining 81.8 percent is influenced by other factors; 2) there is an influence of school climate on students’ motivation to learn Islamic education which has an effect of 17.4 percent, and the remaining 82.6 percent is influenced by other factors; 3) there is an influence of family social support and school climate on students’ motivation to learn Islamic education which has an effect of 23.2 percent, and the remaining 76.8 percent is influenced by other factors. Abstrak: Penelitian ini dimaksudkan 1) untuk mengetahui pengaruh dukungan sosial keluarga terhadap motivasi belajar pendidikan agama Islam, 2) untuk mengetahui pengaruh iklim sekolah terhadap motivasi belajar pendidikan agama Islam. 3) untuk mengetahui pengaruh dukungan sosial keluarga dan iklim sekolah terhadap motivasi belajar pendidikan agama Islam. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif desain korelasi. Subjek penelitian ini siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Ngadiluwih. Sampel yang digunakan berjumlah 175 siswa menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Analisis data menggunakan analisis regresi linier sederhana dan berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 1) ada pengaruh dukungan sosial keluarga terhadap motivasi belajar pendidikan agama Islam yang berpengaruh sebesar 18,2 persen dan sisanya yaitu 81,8 persen dipengaruhi faktor lain; 2) ada pengaruh iklim sekolah terhadap motivasi belajar pendidikan agama Islam yang berpengaruh sebesar 17,4 persen dan sisanya yaitu 82,6 persen dipengaruhi faktor lain; 3) ada pengaruh dukungan sosial keluarga dan iklim sekolah terhadap motivasi belajar pendidikan agama Islam yang berpengaruh sebesar 23,2 persen dan sisanya yaitu 76,8 persen dipengaruhi faktor lain.

This study has the potential to contribute significantly to understanding motivation in both institutions through a better understanding of self-motivated learning among students of the Islamic Counseling Guidance Study Program. Previous studies have explored the concept of self-motivated learning, but there are still research gaps that require further investigation by conducting comparative studies in two institutions. The purpose of this study is to answer how self-motivated learning is for students in the two institutions in the Islamic counseling guidance study program. Research methods use descriptive and qualitative methods. Analysis of data using Nvivo software The sample in this study was 22 people, including 2 lecturers and 20 other students from Uin Imam Bonjol and Uin Sultan Syarif Kasim. The research findings indicate that there is a shared comprehension among high-achieving students originating from renowned colleges in West Sumatra and Riau. The choice of counselling advice majors typically stems from parental influence, input from school teachers, or familial considerations. When it comes to developing self-motivation in learning, several factors should be taken into consideration. These include having well-defined objectives, being in a supportive atmosphere, following structured learning strategies, utilising effective learning techniques, ensuring adequate rest, fostering internal drive, maintaining a balance between different aspects of life, and seeking social support.

The transition from elementary school to junior high school is a challenge for students, especially first-year students. First-year students need to have high learning motivation to be able to answer current academic and non-academic challenges. Learning motivation is influenced by intrinsic factors which come from inside and extrinsic factors from the social environment. The research aims to determine the relationship between parental social support and adversity quotient with learning motivation, both partial and simultaneous. The population is seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Baturetno. We used total population sampling. The subjects involved in this study were all first-year junior high school students, totaling 255 people. Data collection used the Parents' Social Support Scale (12 items, α = 0.893), Adversity Quotient Scale (16 items, α = 0.895), and Learning Motivation Scale (11 items, α = 0.891). Data were analyzed by multiple regression analysis. The results showed that there was a relationship between parental social support and adversity quotient with learning motivation, both partial and simultaneous. Parental social support and adversity quotient have an effect of 61.6% on students' learning motivation. This research has implications for the urgency of the role of the family in supporting student success at school. Families, especially parents, need to be in a social environment that supports and forges student resilience to develop motivation to learn.
