Huanglong Antitussive Granule Relieves Acute Asthma Through Regulating Pulmonary Lipid Homeostasis

Abstract: Background: Asthma is a respiratory disease with chronic airway inflammatory, and individuals with asthma exacerbations is one of the most frequent causes of hospitalization. Huanglong antitussive granule (HL Granule), a Chinese proprietary herbal medicine, has been proved to be effective in the clinical treatment of pulmonary disease. This study is devoted to the pharmacodynamics of HL Granule in acute asthma and the possible mechanism from the perspective of lipidomics. Methods: Mice were divided into four gr… Show more

“…Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparations contain a number of active ingredients that exhibit synergistic effects on multiple targets at the same time(8). TCM has currently been widely used in China to treat asthma, whether alone or in combination with conventional asthma medications (9). Fagopyrum cymosum, known as golden buckwheat (Jinqiaomai) in China, is a perennial herb that belongs to the Fagopyrum genus within the Polygonaceae family (10).…”

“…However, this combination has some potential pharmacological risks like cardiac arrhythmia ( 17 ). Currently, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), owing to their unique curative effects without the development of significant toxic side effects, has been widely applied in the treatment of asthma in China ( 18 ). Thus, under the guidance of cellular endocrinology, it has gradually attracted the attention of researchers for known effective TCM extracts, single herbs, traditional Chinese patent medicine, and compound prescriptions for the treatment of asthma to be selected and for the underlying molecular mechanisms to be revealed.…”
