HTTPS-Only: Upgrading all connections to https in Web Browsers

Abstract: The number of websites that support encrypted and secure https connections has increased rapidly in recent years. Despite major gains in the proportion of websites supporting https, the web contains millions of legacy http links that point to insecure versions of websites. Worse, numerous websites often use http connections by default, even though they already support https. Establishing a connection using http rather than https has the downside that http transfers data in cleartext, granting an attacker the a… Show more

“…We used Bayesian models to estimate unknown parameters in all analyses. We used a Markov chain Monte Carlo method implemented in the jagsUI package (Kellner, 2018) in Program R to estimate the posterior distributions of parameters. Unless otherwise noted, we used uninformative priors in our Bayesian models, and employed three chains of 60,000 iterations each, with the first 50,000 discarded as burn-in.…”

“…We augmented this analysis with a series of Bayesian logistic regression models, 48 , 49 predicting survival at 12, 24 and 36 months, motivated by the widespread use of annual survival-based metrics. 50 , 51 These classification models replicated the inputs of the survival models, and were estimated with MCMC, employing 100 000 samples, a burn-in of 100 000 and thinning of five.…”

“…This crowdsourced information could be made available directly to city staff. Volunteers worked at and between the hackights to produce this application, and with the help of a project manager contracted by the City of Toronto, produced a working application [8] that was even cloned by the City of Edmonton. Unfortunately, years after its release, questions about who would host the application failed to be resolved, and it has fallen into disuse.…”
