Tuberculosis (TB) is a deadly disease that still remains a global burden despite of worldwide measures to curb the disease. As of 2015, the goals of the WHO STOP TB Strategy (2006-2015) have been met and the new WHO End TB Strategy (2015-2030) has been implemented with aim of eradicating the disease. Following that, further studies have demonstrated that TB is a disease that cannot be controlled purely by anti-tuberculous medication alone. It is widely understood that various factors such as rising income inequality, overcrowding populations, compliance to healthcare and resistance pose great barriers to the eradication of disease. In many developing countries including Malaysia, TB is showing or re-emerging trend in both reported cases and resistance. Various predictors for poor disease outcome have been mentioned in the literature such as demographic factors, socioeconomic instability and severe comorbidities amongst the population. Therefore, a prompt review and understanding of the factors at play in the sequestration of TB cases in high risk groups may better inform preventative measures in the future.

ÖzBu çalışmada İslam İşbirliği Teşkilatına üye ülkelerde küreselleşmenin alt bileşenleri olan ekonomik küreselleşme, sosyal küreselleşme ve politik küreselleşmenin ayrı ayrı olarak ekonomik büyümenin bir ölçütü olan kişi başına GSYİH ile ilişkileri incelenmiştir. Öncelikle yatay kesit bağımlılığı altında birimler için yapılan CADF ve panelin geneli için yapılan CIPS birim kök testlerine göre bütün serilerin durağan olmadığı görülmüştür. Yapısal kırılmalı panel eşbütünleşme analizine göre küreselleşmenin alt bileşenleri ile ekonomik büyüme arasında eşbütünleşme ilişkisi tespit edilmiştir. Ekonomik büyüme ile küreselleşmenin alt bileşenleri arasındaki nedensellik ilişkisi araştırılmış ve ekonomik küreselleşmeden ekonomik büyümeye doğru tek yönlü nedensellik ilişkisi, sosyal küreselleşme ile ekonomik büyüme arasında iki yönlü nedensellik ilişkisi bulunmuştur. Politik küreselleşme ile ekonomik büyüme arasında herhangi bir nedensellik ilişkisi bulunamamıştır.

A Communication-Based Intervention Study for Reducing Stigma and Discrimination against Tuberculosis among Thai High-School Students

The current study aims to explore the effectiveness of communication-based intervention on the reduction in TB stigma and discrimination among high-school students in Bangkok, Thailand, during the COVID-19 outbreak. This study is quasi-experimental in nature and is conducted in two high schools (n = 216 students). The study adopts purposive and systematic sampling techniques to select schools and students. The experimental group received a communication program for three months, whereas the control group received no intervention. The study uses generalized estimating equations to assess the overall program between the experimental and control groups at baseline, intervention, and follow-up periods. The outcomes reveal that the communication program effectively reduced TB stigma (p-value < 0.05, CI = 4.962, −1.723) and increased knowledge about TB (p-value < 0.05, CI = 1.825, 2.537), attitudes toward TB (p-value < 0.05, CI = 4.493, 6.280), and self-efficacy on TB stigma and discrimination (p-value < 0.05, CI = 7.133, 9.483) compared with the control group. However, the study finds no significant within- and between-group differences in TB discrimination (p-value > 0.05, CI = −1.398, 0.810). This study is applicable as a supplement for knowledge and attitudes about TB and to the reduction in TB stigma in schools.
